Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) focuses on prevention by helping deescalate the situation through recognizing the early stages. During the training participants will be presented with skills and will have time in class to practice together. During the training participants will learn how to:
- Recognize behaviour that may be the beginning of a crisis
- Respond to different behaviour to deescalate a situation
- Use verbal and nonverbal communication to resolve a crisis before the situation becomes violent
- Cope with own fears and anxieties
- Find the appropriate time to physically intervene
- Use the progression of a holding technique to help handle aggressive behaviour in the least restrictive and safest approach
- Properly document the incident
If you need to cancel your registration within eight (8) days or more prior to your scheduled NVCI training we will issue you a full refund. If however, a cancellation is made within seven (7) or fewer days prior to the scheduled NVCI training you will be given credit to attend a future NVIC training provided by the Sheltering Tree.
For cancellations or questions, please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
If there are insufficient registered participants, training may be cancelled. We will provide notice 5-7 days before the scheduled training and we will provide a full refund to you.
COVID-19 – Event Cancellation Policy
The health and safety of our event participants, staff, and community is our top priority. We are closely following the guidelines and recommendations of the local health unit and the Ontario Government regarding group gatherings and we are assessing the situation daily. We are updating our plans frequently and proactively communicating with our team. We are also making sure to limit class sizes to meet provincial and local guidelines.
Due to the nature of this unprecedented pandemic, NVCI Training Events may be cancelled or postponed with or without sufficient notice. The Sheltering Tree will communicate any cancellations with all registered participants as soon as possible. In the event of a cancellation, participants will be issued a full refund. Participants who require a certification may be given the option to complete the training virtually.
